About Counselling sessions

Marie-Louise is a BACP-registered therapist offering online sessions.

With a professional background spanning both private practice and the NHS, she brings a wealth of experience in supporting individuals through a wide range of personal, relational, and professional challenges. Her work is grounded in empathy, respect, and a deep commitment to helping people navigate life’s complexities.

Marie-Louise works primarily from a person-centred approach, which means providing a safe, non-judgemental space where your thoughts and emotions are fully heard and acknowledged. Her role is to support your process of self-discovery—gently guiding, not directing—so that you can gain greater clarity and confidence in yourself.

Alongside this, she will also draw on psychodynamic principles to explore how early life experiences may be influencing your current patterns, behaviours, and relationships.  By working in this way, you can make meaningful connections between past and present, helping you move forward with insight and intention.

As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Marie-Louise adheres to their ethical framework for good practice. This includes regular professional supervision and ongoing training ensuring safe, effective, and reflective support.

What is
EFT (Tapping)?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping, is a gentle, holistic approach to emotional healing that is growing in popularity worldwide. EFT involves using your fingertips to lightly tap on specific meridian points on the body—similar to those used in acupuncture—while focusing on a particular emotion, thought, or memory.

The core principle behind EFT is that emotional distress is linked to disruptions in the body's energy system. By tapping on these meridian points while acknowledging and verbalising the issue at hand, it’s believed that the body’s energy can be rebalanced, helping to reduce emotional intensity and promote healing.

Although EFT is considered a relatively new therapeutic approach, a growing body of research suggests it can be helpful in managing a variety of emotional and psychological difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Phobias

  • Chronic emotional patterns

EFT can be used as a stand-alone technique or integrated into talking therapy sessions, offering clients a practical and empowering tool for emotional regulation and self-care.

What is Specialist NMH Mentoring?

Specialist Non-Medical Helper (NMH) mentoring is a form of structured, one-to-one support available to university students who experience ADHD, autism, mental health difficulties, or other neurodivergent needs. It is designed to help students navigate the academic and emotional demands of university life in a way that works with their individual strengths and challenges.

As a Specialist NMH Mentor, I provide personalised support that may include help with organisation and planning, managing overwhelm, building confidence, improving motivation, and developing strategies for focus, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy. Sessions are supportive, practical, and tailored to the student — not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Students often contact me when they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to manage the demands of university alongside their wellbeing. My approach is calm, compassionate, and collaborative, creating a space where students feel understood and supported to build skills they can use both academically and beyond.

If you are a university student in receipt of NMH support, or are exploring whether specialist mentoring could benefit you, you are very welcome to get in touch. I’m happy to answer questions and discuss whether this type of support is the right fit for you.
